Agencia Federal de Deslindes y Cartografía (Federal Agency of Land Surveys and Cartography, "AFDC") is the agency in the Ardispherian government charged with surveying and mapping the country and maintaining the geographical and environmental databases.

Survey "Bands"

The entire country is divided into "bands" (bandas) based on latitude and longitude, each band exactly one degree of longitude wide and exactly 0.2 degree of latitude high. They are labelled based on their southwestern corner, and also include a name based on the location of federal survey office (sucursal de AFDC) for that band.

The detailed maps and data sets maintained for the country are divided by these bands. Below is a table showing the bands for the country.

This table is used to monitor progress on several projects, including contour work and landcover work. For contours, an estimate is made of "percent completed." Since landcover can always be more and more detailed (down to individual trees and other types of micromapping), a "percent completed" doesn't make sense. For now, there is a primitive "landcover complexity index" which is really just a count of objects in each band's landcover relations. This seems to be a somewhat useful proxy for degree of progress made in each band, although it should be noted that for some areas with a lot of detail, the index number will be low because the detail was mapped using the old "polygon" style, where there are no landcover relations for which object counts can be easily obtained.
