The Bofobundan people are in the majority practictioners of a unique religion that has been called by some "Zensunni," a syncretism of native Shamanistic elements overlaid with Buddhism and Islam. The endogenous name for the religion is ''Mengzo'', and that is preferred term for it. Counting those living outside the sultanate, it has about 10,000,000 practitioners.
